Custom medals, sometimes called custom medallions, are struck metal awards, usually round, hung from a neck ribbon and made with your own artwork. They can follow any outline we can cut a die for. A medal is handed over at a finish line, on a podium, or at a graduation, and the person who receives it keeps it. Race directors order custom race medals so every finisher leaves with a physical reminder of the event. Schools order custom school medals for honor roll and for graduation. Leagues order custom sports medals for tournament weekends and season trophies. The medal outlives the day it was given.
Organizers of dance, cheer, robotics, spelling bees, barbecue cook-offs, and car shows order custom competition medals for place sets and participation awards. Military units and veterans groups order commemorative and service medals, and police and fire departments do too. Companies and non-profits mark anniversaries and employee awards the same way. Die struck medals have no color. The raised areas are polished metal and the recessed areas are sandblasted for a matte contrast. Soft enamel medals add color. Recessed areas are hand-filled with enamel, up to 7 colors at no extra charge, and you can feel the raised metal lines between colors. Soft enamel is the more popular of the two.
Every order includes a neck ribbon at no charge, free artwork, unlimited revisions, and a free digital proof before production. Production takes 14-18 business days. The minimum order is 100 medals. Shipping to US addresses is free. Designers draw the medal from a logo or a sketch, then revise it until you approve. Ribbons come in solid colors and in two- and three-color combinations, so custom medals and ribbons arrive as a finished award. Memorial and anniversary medals, along with other commemorative pieces, are covered with our commemorative medals. Personalized medals can carry sequential numbering or stay identical across the run.
Once you approve a digital proof, the shop cuts a steel die from that artwork and uses it to strike every medal in your order, then finishes and ribbons each piece.
An in-house designer draws your medal from a logo or a written description at no charge, and revisions stay unlimited until you approve. When you approve the proof, a custom steel die is cut from that art.
Round medals start as blanks punched from sheet metal. The die stamps your design into each blank under pressure so the artwork lives in the metal itself.
On a die struck medal, recessed areas are sandblasted for a matte contrast against polished raised metal. On a soft enamel medal, those recesses are hand-filled with enamel, up to 7 colors at no extra charge.
Enamel fills are cured before plating. Each medal is plated in high polish gold, high polish silver, copper, black nickel, black metal, antique gold, antique silver, or antique copper.
A neck ribbon is paired to each medal at no extra charge, chosen from solid colors and two- and three-color combinations. The finished medals ship free to US addresses.
Pick Color on the quote form to switch the medal between die struck metal with no enamel and soft enamel with hand-filled color in the recesses.

How much do custom medals cost?
Answer
Size, quantity, die struck vs soft enamel, and extras such as 3D, numbering, cutouts, or dual plating set the quote. There is no charge for artwork, revisions, the neck ribbon, or US shipping. Soft enamel includes up to 7 colors at no extra charge. Request a free quote with your size and quantity plus a logo or description, and we will send a quote and a digital proof.
What is the minimum order for custom medals?
Answer
The minimum order is 100 medals. Schools and leagues usually land at or above it, and so do race directors.
How long does it take to make custom medals?
Answer
Production takes 14-18 business days after you approve the digital proof. That window covers die cutting, striking, enamel or sandblast, plating, ribbon pairing, and packing. Artwork and revisions happen before the clock starts. Give us the event date when you request the quote.
Are neck ribbons included with custom medals?
Answer
Yes. A neck ribbon is included at no extra charge with every medal. Solid colors are light blue, white, red, yellow, black, blue, and green. Two- and three-color ribbons include blue/white/red, black/red, red/white, black/white, red/blue, and blue/white. You choose custom neck ribbons for medals from that set on the quote form.
Can I put artwork on both sides of a medal?
Answer
Both sides can carry a design. Race medals often put the event name and year on the front and a course landmark or skyline on the back. Memorial medals often put a portrait on the front and a dedication on the reverse. Each side that carries a design needs its own die. Tell us you want two sides when you request the quote.
What is the difference between soft enamel and die struck medals?
Answer
Die struck medals have no color. Raised metal is polished and recessed metal is sandblasted, so the contrast is all in the finish. Soft enamel medals are custom enamel medals with up to 7 hand-filled colors sitting slightly below the raised lines you can feel. Switch them in the quote form with the Color field.
Do you make custom race, 5K and marathon medals?
Answer
We make custom 5K medals, custom marathon medals, custom running medals, and custom finisher medals for half marathons, triathlons, and fun runs. The front usually carries the event name and the distance. A city skyline or course landmark is a common second side. Sequential numbering is available. Start with a free quote and a logo or a sketch of the course.
Can I add sequential numbering to race medals?
Answer
Sequential numbering can be added to the medal so each finisher or each bib has a unique number. Tell us the starting number and how many digits you need. Numbering is an extra on the quote. It is a common request on custom race medals and on tournament medals that track place or participant.
What sizes do custom medals come in?
Answer
Sizes run from 1.5" to 3" in quarter-inch steps. Most orders are 2" or 2.5". Larger sizes give more room for a skyline or a block of text. Smaller sizes read as a compact award on a ribbon. The size you pick is locked in the die, so choose it before you approve the proof.
Do you make custom medals with no minimum order?
Answer
There is a minimum. The minimum order is 100 medals. That quantity fits a small race or a single team.
Can I get a 3D custom medal?
Answer
A 3D mold adds depth and dimension to mascots or figures on the medal. 3D is a paid upgrade charged per side. The medal is still plated, and enamel can sit in the flat areas around the relief. Send a sketch or a description of the sculpt when you request the quote.
What file do you need for my medal artwork?
Answer
A vector logo such as .AI or .EPS is easiest. JPG, PNG, PDF, and even a phone snapshot of a sketch all work as reference. Include the event name, the colors, the ribbon choice, and any text that must appear. If you have no file, describe the medal and we will draw it. Artwork and revisions are free, and you will see a digital proof before we cut the die.

Race directors treat the medal as part of why people register. Finisher medals for a 5K, a half marathon, a marathon, a triathlon, or a fun run usually carry the event name and the year, often with a skyline or a landmark on the course. Soft enamel is the usual finish, and the neck ribbon is included. Browse custom race medals to see layouts other directors have approved.

Custom soccer medals, custom baseball medals, custom wrestling medals, custom track medals, and custom pickleball medals follow the same pattern. Custom fiesta medals and other contest awards use place sets and a participation medal that still feels like an award. Soft enamel takes bright color for a logo or a contest name. Dual plating and cutouts are extras on the quote. Browse custom competition medals for those layouts.

Custom military medals are often die struck antique metal, with a portrait or a date and a second side for a motto. The traditional finish is the all-metal die struck look. See our die struck medals for antique service pieces built that way.
Browse Service Medals arrow_forwardCompanies and non-profits mark anniversaries and employee awards with custom award medals. Memorial races belong here too. Custom medals for awards at a banquet often use an antique finish and a dedication line on the reverse. Offset printing handles a portrait.
