Custom Medals

A custom medal is struck metal, usually round, finished with your artwork and hung from a neck ribbon. Someone is handed one at a finish line, on a podium, at a graduation, or at an awards banquet. It says you finished, you won, you belong, or you were recognized. People keep them for decades, hung on a wall or held in a shadow box.
Artwork and revisions are always free. Fill out a free quote form to send descriptions, logos, and other design ideas to our team, and we’ll send you a digital proof in 24-48 hours.
Production usually takes 14-18 business days, but times will vary depending on the complexity of the design.
We include free shipping for all orders to the United States. Shipping usually takes two business days, depending on weather and holidays. Ask your sales rep for details on APO and international shipping.
We do not accept returns, but all of our customers receive a 100% quality guarantee. If you receive defective products, please let us know, and we’ll begin the process of replacing them for you.

What Are Custom Medals?

Gold star-shaped La Salle medal with a purple neck ribbon

Custom medals, sometimes called custom medallions, are struck metal awards, usually round, hung from a neck ribbon and made with your own artwork. They can follow any outline we can cut a die for. A medal is handed over at a finish line, on a podium, or at a graduation, and the person who receives it keeps it. Race directors order custom race medals so every finisher leaves with a physical reminder of the event. Schools order custom school medals for honor roll and for graduation. Leagues order custom sports medals for tournament weekends and season trophies. The medal outlives the day it was given.

Organizers of dance, cheer, robotics, spelling bees, barbecue cook-offs, and car shows order custom competition medals for place sets and participation awards. Military units and veterans groups order commemorative and service medals, and police and fire departments do too. Companies and non-profits mark anniversaries and employee awards the same way. Die struck medals have no color. The raised areas are polished metal and the recessed areas are sandblasted for a matte contrast. Soft enamel medals add color. Recessed areas are hand-filled with enamel, up to 7 colors at no extra charge, and you can feel the raised metal lines between colors. Soft enamel is the more popular of the two.

Every order includes a neck ribbon at no charge, free artwork, unlimited revisions, and a free digital proof before production. Production takes 14-18 business days. The minimum order is 100 medals. Shipping to US addresses is free. Designers draw the medal from a logo or a sketch, then revise it until you approve. Ribbons come in solid colors and in two- and three-color combinations, so custom medals and ribbons arrive as a finished award. Memorial and anniversary medals, along with other commemorative pieces, are covered with our commemorative medals. Personalized medals can carry sequential numbering or stay identical across the run.

How Custom Medals Are Made

Once you approve a digital proof, the shop cuts a steel die from that artwork and uses it to strike every medal in your order, then finishes and ribbons each piece.

1

Artwork and Steel Die

An in-house designer draws your medal from a logo or a written description at no charge, and revisions stay unlimited until you approve. When you approve the proof, a custom steel die is cut from that art.

2

Metal Striking

Round medals start as blanks punched from sheet metal. The die stamps your design into each blank under pressure so the artwork lives in the metal itself.

3

Enamel or Sandblast

On a die struck medal, recessed areas are sandblasted for a matte contrast against polished raised metal. On a soft enamel medal, those recesses are hand-filled with enamel, up to 7 colors at no extra charge.

4

Baking and Plating

Enamel fills are cured before plating. Each medal is plated in high polish gold, high polish silver, copper, black nickel, black metal, antique gold, antique silver, or antique copper.

Custom Medal FAQs

  • Respuesta

Popular Uses for Custom Medals

Race & Marathon Medals

Race directors treat the medal as part of why people register. Finisher medals for a 5K, a half marathon, a marathon, a triathlon, or a fun run usually carry the event name and the year, often with a skyline or a landmark on the course. Soft enamel is the usual finish, and the neck ribbon is included. Browse custom race medals to see layouts other directors have approved.

School & Academic Medals

Schools and districts order medals for honor roll, science fair, debate, band, academic decathlon, and perfect attendance. Custom graduation medals and other school medals usually carry the crest or mascot and the honor being recognized. Soft enamel holds school colors. Die struck antique metal is a common choice for a more formal night. See custom school medals for academic and commencement layouts.

Sports & Tournament Medals

Leagues and tournament organizers order first through third place sets plus participation medals. Custom soccer medals, custom baseball medals, custom wrestling medals, custom track medals, and custom pickleball medals follow the same pattern. The face carries the sport's ball or equipment and the league name. Custom gold medals for first place are usually high polish gold plating. See custom sports medals for place sets and season awards.

Competition Medals

Dance, cheer, robotics, spelling bees, barbecue cook-offs, car shows, and fiestas all use the same medal construction. Custom fiesta medals and other contest awards use place sets and a participation medal that still feels like an award. Soft enamel takes bright color for a logo or a contest name. Dual plating and cutouts are extras on the quote. Browse custom competition medals for those layouts.

Military & Service Medals

Military units and veterans groups order commemorative and service medals, and police and fire departments do too. Custom military medals are often die struck antique metal, with a portrait or a date and a second side for a motto. The traditional finish is the all-metal die struck look. See our die struck medals for antique service pieces built that way.

Browse Service Medals arrow_forward

Commemorative & Memorial Medals

Companies and non-profits mark anniversaries and employee awards with custom award medals. Memorial races belong here too. Custom medals for awards at a banquet often use an antique finish and a dedication line on the reverse. Offset printing handles a portrait. Start with commemorative medals when the piece marks a date or a milestone.
