The ship patrols the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone to protect living marine resources from foreign fishing interests and board domestic fishing vessels to enforce federal and state fisheries and vessel safety laws. USCGC ALERT also enforces laws regarding illegal immigration and the detection, monitoring and interdiction of many forms of contraband.
The challenge coin we created for the group captures the smallest of details on the vessel by using what we call a 3D mold. A hand carved mold is created that is used to add extra dimension and depth to our coins. The front of the coin proudly displays the seal of the USCG which is a simple yet effective way to let all know what branch of the armed services this coin came from.
This coin was commissioned by the boats commanding officer and handed out to the men and women who served under him. Throughout ones military career, one can accumulate many of these coins as they go from post to post. Each time they pull their coins out, they are instantly reminded of the time spent on that tour or post.
