Heart disease is the #1 cause of death for men and women in the United States.
February is American Heart Month, an opportunity for individuals to focus on their cardiovascular health. The Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention is highlighting hypertension, a major contributor to heart disease and stroke, as the main focus during this time.
Globally, cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death for both men and women, with 18.6 million deaths recorded in 2018. However, by addressing risk factors like hypertension, high cholesterol, and smoking, the likelihood of developing heart disease can be greatly reduced
Why Heart Month?
February is designated as National Heart Health Month to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death worldwide, with over 17 million deaths per year according to the World Health Organization (WHO). This month is an important time to focus on our heart health and the prevention of heart conditions. It is an opportunity to take extra care of our hearts and support those who are already affected by heart diseases.
Making a Difference With Heart Disease Awareness Pins
Custom awareness pins are a powerful tool for making a statement. The Lapel Pins Plus team has worked with various charities and awareness groups to raise awareness about important social and medical issues. We create custom enamel pins that help create and contribute to raising awareness, finding a cure or fundraising for heart disease charities and organizations. If you and your team are ready to create awareness pins, we are here to help.
Designing a Custom Awareness Pin
While the standard awareness ribbon design is well-known, custom lapel pins offer the opportunity to add personalization and originality. Some customers choose to incorporate text around, above or within the design. Others prefer to add a heart or heartbeat for a different kind of design. This allows charities and corporations to incorporate their own logos and emblems in their custom awareness lapel pin design.
Custom designs are limitless, our art team has experience in creating unique lapel pins in various shapes, sizes, and colors. Most of the awareness lapel pins we create fall under the category of either soft enamel pins or hard enamel pins (cloisonne).
Soft Enamel Pins for Awareness
Enamel is a specific type of paint we use to create beautifully vibrant designs. Soft enamel pins have a more traditional look and feel than other options. The enamel colors are put in the recessed portions of a design, leaving the raised metal of the pins untouched. This means that when you run your finger across the surface of the pin, you feel the texture of the raised lines of the design and the gaps between the raised and recessed areas of the artwork.
Using Cloisonne Pins for Heart Disease Awareness
Hard enamel pins, also called cloisonne pins, have a smooth surface because the recessed portions of the design are filled with a glass-like resin enamel to an even level with the raised metal of a pin’s surface. This style of lapel pin makes for a clean looking design with a sharp contrast between colors. No matter which style you prefer, soft enamel or cloisonne, you can be sure that the final result will be a unique design that will help you make an impression for your cause.

In the United States, more than 126 million people had some form of cardiovascular disease between 2015 and 2018. During that time span, nearly 59 percent of non-Hispanic Black females and 60 percent of non-Hispanic Black males had some form of cardiovascular disease. The total direct costs of heart disease and stroke were estimated to be more than $200 billion between 2016 and 2017.
This year, a number of advocacy and research organizations are using promotional items to help support fundraising events and to educate the public about cardiovascular disease while raising money for research and support services.
