Kiwanis International was founded in 1915. It is an international, coeducational service club whose name was taken from the Otchipew American Indian. “Nunc Kee-wanis” translates into “We trade,” “We share our talents,” “We make noise,” and “We meet”. The organization’s founders translated the word as “We build,” which served as the original motto for the Kiwanis. The current motto is “Serving the Children of the World.”
Kiwanis International has over 240,000 members in 7,700 clubs in 80 countries. The average age of members is 57. Members are predominantly male but 26% of the club’s population are female. Each club has a president and board of directors making local Kiwanis strong and omnipresent in their community.
We recently had the pleasure of working with a club that was going to be holding their annual conference in Barbados. They wanted a pin that captured the feeling that one has when they set foot on a beautiful tropical island like Barbados.
