Curling is a highly competitive sport in which players slide stones across a sheet of ice towards a target area. It is similar to shuffleboard.  For those of you that are unfamiliar with curling, here’s how it works:

Two teams, consisting of four players each, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones called “rocks” across the ice curling sheet.  The objective is to get one of the eight stones given to each team towards the house, a circular target marked on the ice.  The team that has the highest number of “rocks” resting towards the center of the house is deemed the winner. The Olympics Shed Light On the Sport

Called “Chess on Ice,” curling has been an official winter sport in the Winter Olympic Games since 1998.  In 2002, the International Olympic Committee declared that the curling competition from the Winter Olympics of 1924 would be considered an official Olympic event.  The first medals for curling were awarded that year with the gold medal won by Great Britain and Ireland, two silver medals by Sweden, and the bronze by France.

The sport has gained popularity because of today’s televised events.  People worldwide can watch the Olympics and see their favorite curlers competing.  Based on precision and strength, the sport is admirable and unique much like its athletes.  Custom lapel pins with a curling theme sell quickly because of this.  A great Olympic keepsake, they come in a variety of sizes, shapes, styles, and colors.

Lapel Pins Are Great For Tournaments

At tournaments and competitions, curling lapel pins are ideal.  Not only do they encourage athletes to be their best, they can also be used to “break the ice” so to speak.  Teams can meet one another and trade pins.  This popular pasttime has a place in every type of sport.  In fact, if is often the highlight at meets and competitions.

We created a custom pin for the GNCC Area Club Championship for the Lake Placid Event.  The design that we created showcases the sport for what it’s worth.  By focusing on the middle of the pin, a person can see the stones as well as the house.  They also get the idea of the distance that the “rocks” are being slid by the mountains in the distance.

Show Club and Team Pride With Your Own Club Pins

Custom lapel pins are a great way for curling clubs and teams to show pride.  They can wear them to competitions and even hand out extras to their biggest fans.  This is one way for teams to generate interest in the sport.  If a person has never heard of curling, they can see the pin and ask the person wearing it more about its history, rules and regulations, and athletes.

Curling clubs are popping up all over the world.  If you want yours to stand out from others, you may want to think about ordering custom lapel pins for all of your athletes.  Don’t forget to pick up some extras for spectators as well.  You’re sure to have a following once people see you and your team in action.
