Can An Epoxy Dome Be Added to a 3D Challenge Coin?

An epoxy dome is just a thin coating of clear epoxy that is placed over one or both sides of the challenge coin.  It is a personal preference and considering how it affects the aesthetics of the coin not its integrity or durability, it could be something of interest to you.  Epoxy does have a utilitarian use when we cover all of our offset printed images with it.  This is one more thing to think about.

Pros of Having An Epoxy Dome

Some pros of this feature is the look and the feel.  Although you can’t feel the 3D mold per se, your eye can definitely pick up on the depth change of the 3D mold.  The coins’ smooth feel is very similar to coins that are made in our cloisonne style(sometimes called hard enamel).  Because there is a higher perceived value for cloisonne coins, having yours made in soft enamel then coated with an epoxy dome is a great way to capture the same feeling.

Epoxy domes also help protect the coin’s image from scratches.  If you handle your coin collection frequently, you will want the added protection that this option gives your custom challenge coins.  No one will question why you want to preserve your challenge coins in their original state.  Highly collectible objects increase in value when they are in mint condition.
