We were recently contacted by a customer who wanted to create a soft enamel challenge coin to celebrate the 75th year of the motor patrol unit known as the Alabama State Troopers.  We were honored to fulfill their request by creating custom challenge coins to give to each officer in this department of law enforcement.

The double sided coins were rich in detail and easily identifiable.  Created in the colors royal blue and yellow, they are memorable and sentimental.  Each Alabama State Trooper receiving a commemorative challenge coin will feel honored knowing that they too are upholding a 75 year old commitment to Service, Courtesy, and Protection.

Celebrating the 75th Year of the Motor Patrol Unit

Three quarters of a century old, the Alabama State Trooper motor patrol unit is stronger than ever.  It is a division of the Alabama Department of Public Safety and is the highway patrol agency in Alabama.  The unit was created in an attempt to protect the rights, lives, and property of the citizens living in the “Heart of Dixie”.

It isn’t unusual to take a milestone like an anniversary and feature details about it on a challenge coin.  In the case of the Alabama State Troopers, honoring past and present motor unit officers was obviously the objective.

The Symbolism of Wings Coming Out of Tires

Many motorcycle related coins use wings coming out of each side of the tire as a symbolic gesture.  Because Guardian Angels are thought to have wings and Alabama State Troopers dutifully protect the public, they too could be considered angels.  The wings could also be thought to protect the officers as they go about their day to day activities.

Raised and Recessed Areas

Looking at the challenge coin closely, you will see that all of the color filled areas will be filled just below the height of the gold plating.  This is what gives the challenge coin its raised and recessed areas.  The reason why this is important to point out is because small details often make challenge coins unique and personal.

Challenge Coins and Law Enforcement Agencies

Challenge coins were originally created for military units but more and more people are using them as a way to honor the individuals that work for them.  The Alabama State Troopers are no exception.  They wanted to pay tribute to the men and women in their mobile unit and the 75 years of service that they had achieved as a department.
