California Department of Veteran Affairs has been hosting its CalVet Women Veteran Conference every year since August 2008. This year’s conference is being held in October. With recognizing women veterans slowly becoming an annual event, one vet center decided to take its tribute to the next level with a special military challenge coin.
The Corona Vet Center not only wanted a coin to specifically honor women war heroes but also wanted a coin that can be used as gifts to welcome veterans being admitted for treatment as well as for wounded war veterans’ families as a special thank you.

The Merging of Femininity and Duty. On the front of the coin, images of a classic black dress shoe beside a black combat boot stand proudly above a rifle. The combination really stands out against a boldly colored United States flag.

Important Text and Phrases. On both the front and back of the coin, messages pay tribute to women veterans, give the VA Vet Center web address, and include an inspiring motto that can be read clearly.

Recognition of All Five Branches. On the back of the coin, surrounded by the motto, are five branch specific emblems honoring members of the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard.
